The Northwesterly winds will kick in during the course of Friday bringing what will be the second significant cold snap of Autumn/Winter 08. Temperatures will plumet to freezing in the south and as low a -5c in the North. Daytime temperatures in the south will just reach 3 or 4c, some place further North will be lucky to see about -1c. Accompanying the cold there is the possbility of some accumulating snow for all, especially for the east. Temperatures will fall below freezing for most overnight and falling as low as -4c in the North.

Outlook for Saturday to Sunday
Temperatures will stuggle once again on Saturday, some places not reaching above minus during the daytime hours, during the morning some places may awake to temperatures as low as -7c. Sleet and snow is possible, particularly in the east. Sunday will be yet another very cold day for the North with some snow expected, further south it will be slightly less cold but still feeling raw. Overnight temperatures will plumet once again.

Snow storms roll across the US

An area of Low pressure lying over Quebec has brought strong winds and snow showers to a number of US states. Storms have been rolling across the Plains, bringing snow showers to the Great Lakes, before moving east towards Michigan. According to the Severe Weather Centre, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was hardest hit by snow on Monday, with 11 inches (279mm) falling in Shingleton.

Norbert gathers strength

Hurricane Norbert strengthened into a powerful category 4 storm on Wednesday, as it continued to track towards Mexico’s Pacific coast. Currently sustaining winds of around 135mph (215kph), the hurricane is forecast to make landfall on Saturday, but is expected to weaken before it hits the coast.
